Sculpted Polymer Fairy

Lately I've been playing with polymer clay, a new medium for me, I've always enjoyed clay but I haven't really played with it since my junior high art classes (don't even ask how long ago) Polymer clay is a bit different though, I've experimented with several brands and so far I like Sculpey II best, it's a bit softer than Premo and Cernit but not as soft as Fimo. I've made at least 6 baby heads and I've messed up the eyes on all of them experimenting with different materials...Looks like I'm going to have to break down and buy some glass eyes...Oh well, practice makes perfect...does any artist ever reach perfection? hmmm, not in their own eyes I'll bet... I'll practicing for the rest of my life.

CIMG4637 I finally had some success making closed eyes and turned out a few cute fairies. The largest one is my first completed sculpture in polymer clay and I'm quite proud of her, I just love her expression... so very sweet. She had a rough start though. First, I burned her by cooking her too long, then I painted her flesh in acrylic to try and cover it up and it looked good for a few days but was too thick and rubbed off in places and looked worse so I took the dremmel to her and scrubbed all the paint off and the burnt "skin" as well, now she just looks dirty but I don't care, she and I have been through a lot together and I love her, to me she is beautiful.CIMG4669 CIMG4666
